U–Pb and trace element zircon and apatite petrochronology of eclogites from the Scandinavian Caledonides

Abstract The petrochronological records of eclogites in the Scandinavian Caledonides are investigated using EPMA and LA-ICPMS zircon apatite for U–Pb geochronology, combined with major trace element characteristics. Metamorphic from two Lofoten-Vesterålen Complex (Lofoten Archipelago region) collectively yielded a Concordia age 427.8 ± 5.7 Ma an upper intercept 425 30 Ma. Apatites same provided lower intercepts at 322 28 354 33 Ma, latter also yielding younger 227 24 Two Lower Seve Nappe (Northern Jämtland) demonstrate different records. ages 467.2 5.9 444.5 5.5 which resolve prograde metamorphism growth during retrogression, respectively. apatites 436 18 415 25 In combination their geochemical characteristics, they suggest separate stages exhumation eclogite bodies Nappe. Zircons Blåhø (Nordøyane Archipelago) continuum concordant dates ca. 435 to 395 suggests several cycles HT within short intervals. Distinctive characteristics formation coeval garnet metamorphism, but Pb diffusion behaved as open system until cooling nappe 390 12 (lower apatite). To summarize, this study presents high potential coupled petrochronology resolving metamorphic evolution, particularly respect constrain growth, alterations meaning record.
